Training day 1:

The objectives of the lab are to learn how to:

  • Configure custom Windows PE boot media
  • Create a custom answer file by using Windows SIM
  • Install a reference computer by using an answer file
  • Prepare a reference computer by using Sysprep
  • Capture a reference computer
  • Create and configure an MDT deployment share
  • Create a task sequence
  • Deploy a Windows 10 image by using MDT
  • Create and configure a Windows ICD provisioning package

Create WinPE media

Open Deployment and Imaging Tools as Administrator

Run: Copype amd64 "Location(C:\Whatever)"

This creates an install media for Win10PE.

Adding Packages

Open Powershell as Administrator
Run the following commands:

Mount-WindowsImage -ImagePath "imagepath\Media\Sources\Boot.wim" -Index 1 -Path "C:\mountPath"

Add-WindowsDriver -Path "C:\mountPath" -Driver "C:\Drivers\Whatever" -Recurse -ForceUnsigned

CD "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Assessment and deployment kit\Windows preInstallation Environment\amd64\WinPE_OCs”

Add-WindowsPackage –Path E:\winpe64\mount –PackagePath .\WinPE-NetFX.cab

Add-WindowsPackage –Path E:\winpe64\mount –PackagePath .\WinPE-Scripting.cab

Add-WindowsPackage –Path E:\winpe64\mount –PackagePath .\WinPE-WMI.cab

Add-WindowsPackage –Path E:\winpe64\mount –PackagePath .\WinPE-PowerShell.cab  

When finished customizing the .wim, run Dismount-Windowsimage -Path "C:\mount" -Save

When creating an unattended file, place it at the root of any drive when booting to the installer, names "Autounattend.xml" or "Unattended.xml"
